How to Find Your Life Purpose (six simple steps)

Sometimes we all feel stuck.

Maybe you don’t have the job you want, the relationship, or the financial situation.

You probably know what it is you don’t like, but have you ever taken the time to figure out what you want?

Suppose your answers are vague, like a job that pays more, is closer to home, is where to find your soulmate, or is where to be rich.

In that case, you should narrow down your responses by being as specific as possible.

So here’s the answer to the question, “What does your ideal life look like?

What would you need in your life for it to be more fulfilling and meaningful?

How to find your purpose?

If you’re reading this blog post, chances are you’ve already thought about this question and know what you want.

However, suppose you’re new to the blog and haven’t yet answered the question.

In that case, I’m going to assume that you don’t have a clue about what you want and that you need to start with the first step of determining what you want.

So, here’s how to start: Think about your past experiences. What did you like about them?

To put it in a slightly different light, If you win the lottery tomorrow and become a millionaire overnight, what would you do with the rest of your life?

Whatever you do, do it with your heart because nothing is worthwhile unless you give your whole self.

Do you want to spend more time with your hobbies or start your own business?

Whatever you do, do it with your heart because nothing is worthwhile unless you give your whole self.

I don’t think it’s possible to live your life without having a vision for what you want, and I can guarantee that you’ll never find out how far you can go if you don’t know where you’re going.

If you don’t have a goal in life, you will not be able to get there.

I’m sharing this with you because there is no better time than right now to start creating your future.

Dream big about the possibilities.

Next, you must sit down and write your dream in vivid detail.

Next, think about the things you want from life that you’d like to accomplish within the next ten years.

I get out of bed early, work out before my day starts, and love my family.

These are the things you are willing to devote time and energy to each day.

Get your brain working on some ideas.

Get a sheet of paper and draw a picture of your dream in vivid detail.

Make a list of the most important things to you in your life.

  • Family
  • Friends
  • Faith/ Spirituality
  • Personal growth
  • Having a Healthy Lifestyle
  • Having your finances in order
  • Work/life balance
  • Maintaining a loving relationship with your significant other
  • Being happy at work
  • Being organized and using time wisely
  • Participating in the hobbies you enjoy
  • Making a difference in the world

Setting Priorities

It’s essential to prioritize what you want in your life.

We sometimes lose sight of who we are and what we want from life.

We put out fires, and we end up with more fires.

That’s how life is.

It’s so hard to pay attention to everything in your life, to take time to do the things you want to do, and to get to know the people you think would benefit you and assist you in your journey.

I know I’m a bit of a control freak, but I also know certain things in my life need control.

For me, it’s my health. I’m not good at just letting go and doing things spontaneously.

I don’t enjoy doing anything unless it’s something that I’ve planned out.

I’m not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

It depends on what you want from life.

If you don’t prioritize your list, you’ll get overwhelmed with your ideas and never put your best thoughts forward.

  • What am I most passionate about?
  • What would inspire me to get out of bed at 5 AM on a Saturday?
  • What haven’t I experienced yet that I’ve always wanted to?
  • What haven’t I given yet that I’ve always wanted to?
  • What haven’t I learned yet that I’ve always wanted to?
  • What part of me hasn’t healed yet that I still need to?
  • Am I doing now what I want to do?
  • If not, do I even know what I’d like to do?
  • What can I do to serve others?

Write Them Down

Write down the answers in your paper.

These should be your honest answers – not what you should do or what others expect you to do.

You must do this before making a statement about your life’s purpose.

Then, put them together into a life purpose statement.

Your purpose statement is your reason for being in business. It answers the question,

“Why are you doing what you do? “What is my true calling in life? “

I ask myself that question often.

Let me give you another example so you understand why it’s essential to write them down.

Many people have lost their passion for life and business in today’s business environment.

They are running on autopilot and have no idea why they are even in business.

Their purpose is to keep the lights on and the bills paid.

Their passion for their business is so low that they are unsure why they are still in business.

Your purpose statement answers the question, “Why are you in business?”

You need to know the answer before deciding what to do with your business.

Go back to your paper and write, “My purpose in life is….”

Then, just write.

Spend time reflecting on your dreams, priorities, and the questions above.

This step is crucial.

You must make sure you are clear about what you want from life.

And you can’t do this if you are not happy with who you are as a person.

Know Your Why

Write down your “Why?”

Now that you have a clear idea of what you want out of life, it’s time to write down why you want to live this particular life.

When you are done, read your answer out loud. If it sounds good, excellent!

If not, then you can go back and reread your “Why?” and start again.

After thinking about what you want, you will realize that you already know the answer.

You’ve had this dream for years.

You just didn’t realize it until now.

So when you look at your plan and decide to take action, you will need to start thinking about how you will get from where you are now to where you want to be.

Follow Your Passion (really, do it.)

Next, consider how you can use your passions and dreams to serve the world.

Write down the following statement, “I will make the world a better place by…” and your answers.

Get all of your ideas down on paper.

This will probably take at least 10 minutes, though it could take hours.

Write until you feel you have some clarity about your life.

Then, go back and read the content.

Is it powerful for you?

Is it a wake-up call?

If not, keep writing until you find something that’s profound for you.

When you take the time to think about what you want to accomplish in this lifetime, you’ll see a pattern develop.

What you’re looking for is a way to make a lasting impact on the world around you.

The more you think about this, the more it will become apparent.

The only thing holding you back is your fear of failure.

Unfortunately, a lot of us are afraid of failure.

Fail a lot, fail gracefully

We’re afraid that if we try something new, we might fail.

We’re worried that our ideas won’t be good enough or we’ll get laughed at.

If you’re afraid of failure, you’re also scared of success.

Success isn’t about how many times you fail.

It’s about how many times you succeed.

The way to overcome failure fears is first to understand why you’re afraid of it in the first place.

The fear of failure can be overcome by taking action and learning from mistakes.

Once you learn from your failures, you no longer need to fear them.

You know that failure is inevitable, but it’s also a natural part of building and growing.

If you don’t try something new, you’ll never know what could have been.

Achieving Your Goals Failure is not the opposite of success.

On the contrary, failure is part of success.

Failure is just another step on the road to success.

Define Your Life Purpose

Finally, You’re going to have to think about what your life’s purpose is going to be and how you feel about it.

It’s going to be an emotional experience.

Your life purpose will emotionally impact you because it’s the moment you decide to live fully, passionately, and authentically.

You will look at what you wrote and have mind-blowing “why didn’t I think of that before?” revelations.

If you have to read this sentence, just know that you are about to take a quantum leap forward in understanding how to write the best.

Even if your statements aren’t very impressive to others, what matters is that you make sure they are 100% accurate and relevant to you and that they have emotional significance.

What does this mean?

It means that when you’re writing, your emotions will be involved.

You will feel what you’re writing and be affected by what you write.

This is true whether you’re writing about your feelings or about another person’s feelings.

You’ll get an emotional response from writing because you’re tapping into your emotions.

How do you get there?

You start by writing about something that you deeply care about.

If you don’t know what you care about, that’s okay.

Just write about something that you love, that you’re passionate about.

Once you’ve done that, you can write about how you think about that thing.

How do you do that?

You start by listing all the things you love and care about.

Don’t worry if it’s not very long or has lots of stuff.

Just keep going until you run out of things.

Summary

Finally, look at your list and see which ones are the best.

Which ones make you feel the most alive?

Which are the best to talk about when you’re with your friends?

Once you have a list of things that make you feel good, you want to figure out why they make you feel good.

Why do you love your family?

Why do you love your friends?

Why do you love to write?

Why do you love to sing?

Why do you love to read?

Why do you love to learn new things?

I can go on and on.

However, if you’ve reached this step.

Then congratulations, you’ve found your purpose.
